This weekend is the time to be in Fornoli.
Let’s hope the weather is fine.
Catene Cafe has had a transformation. The gelato counter has been replaced by delicious pastries.
The grand opening was this evening and the lovely Paolo was in fine form.
The selection of pastries is excellent and we were able to sample quite a few…and they were just as delicious as they look. The girls were mobbed by people wanting to try things.
Good luck Paolo, I hope your new venture is a huge success.
I told you a while ago about a great new accessory shop in La Villa opened by Giuliana. She has now joined with a friend and moved the shop to Fornoli.
The shop now sells clothes and accessories for men and women.
It is a great addition to Fornoli, and La Villa’s loss. Drop in, say hello and take a look at the excellent selection.
La Lanternina is down a flight of stairs in a side street in Fornoli, so it can be easy to miss.
That would be a mistake. The owner is very friendly and he serves delicious food.
There is a a wood fired pizza oven. I will have to go back to try the pizza…or you could go and report back.

The beautiful Ponte delle Catene in Fornoli was commissioned by the Duke of Lucca, Charles Louis de Bourbon, to replace an earlier bridge (built in the 1300s) which was washed away in a flood in 1836.
The chain suspension bridge crosses the Lima River from Fornoli to the little piazza in Chifenti. It is now a pedestrian bridge.
Architect Lorenzo Nottolini was sent to England to study suspension bridges there. The bridge was begun in 1844 and completed in 1860, making it one of the first suspension bridges in Italy.
The road section of the bridge was destroyed in WWII and was rebuilt in 1950.
It looks very majestic, especially in the early evening light.
The views from the bridge are spectacular.

While you are there admiring the bridge, call in for a coffee at Cafe Catene and say hello to Paolo.
It is no secret that I am a big fan of Paolo Citti. I am delighted that he has opened a new bar and cafe in Fornoli. I am even more pleased that his gelato making is fully operational.
Now the biggest problem is which flavour to have.
I find it difficult to go past nocciola and pistachio, but I was also tempted by chocolate and coconut…life can be molto difficile sometimes.
Say hello to lovely Paolo at Catene Cafe in Fornoli for me next time you go.
