Ponte a Serraglio is very lucky to have a wonderful fruit and vegetable shop owned and run by the lovely Piera. She and her husband come from Sicily where they still have a farm.
This Christmas they have selected some delicious treats from Sicliy to sell in their tiny shop. It is now brimming with great Christmas gifts or special things for feasts with friends and family.
Of course they still have their regular supply of excellent fruit and vegetables.
Christmas is not far away!
Dolce e Salata, a new shop selling bread, cakes, biscuits, pasta and other goodies has opened in Via Umberto I in La Villa. It is where there was a small bread shop a while ago.
The friendly owner, Titti, was kept busy this morning and was running low on a few things when I arrived. There was queue when I arrived and it was growing longer as I left.
A new opening is great news for Bagni di Lucca. I wish the shop success and hope it is well supported.

We discovered a great new place to enjoy aperitivo not far from Bagni di Lucca, in Ghivizzano.
Eat Valley offers an excellent selection of wine and aperitivo delights. Everything was delicious. We decided to eat outside on a warm evening.
There are excellent tasting rooms inside.
There is also a well stocked shop selling a range of local products.
The restaurant specialises in grilled meats.

Fornoli on the road towards Barga is a small garden plot where you can buy produce directly from the grower. It doesn’t come much fresher than that!
I called in recently and bought some zucchini flowers and tropea onions…delicious.
Don’t drive past! Support a local business.
One of our favourite restaurants in the area was Cappuccetto Rosso. We were not happy when they told us they were closing. They assured us they would reopen in a new location.
The new restaurant has opened in the historical centre of
Barga. It is called Ristorante Piazzangelio, named after the Piazza where it is located.

Lovely Valentina looked after us just as well as she did at the previous restaurant.
The food is excellent. We ordered shared plates of prosciutto and mozzarella with a delicious mint sauce.
The fish of the day was Branzino, Sea Bass. They had an enormous one, big enough for our party of 5.
Our desserts were great.
This was the winner.
We wish Valentina and Alfonso and the team the very best for their new venture.

The new fruit and vegetable shop opened in Ponte a Serraglio and drew a huge crowd of well wishers…and buyers.
The shop has exceeded expectations. The space is tiny and it is overflowing with great food. There is much more than just fruit and vegetables, which look amazing.
There is also a deli counter filled with delights. It was a bit crowded so I couldn’t photograph much.
There are shelves stocked with handy items for convenient shopping.
There were refreshments, of course, and a huge cake.
A young family is behind this new venture. When things settle a bit I will have a chat with them and find out a bit more…along with the opening hours.
La Sosta, near Pescaglia, is a bit of a drive from Bagni di Lucca, but is a great place for Sunday lunch.
The little restaurant is nestled into a pine forest beside a church.
There is an outdoor eating area for sunny days.
We visited on a cool autumn day and chose to sit in the cosy indoor area.
It isn’t a big room and it was soon packed.
The food is great! Porcini mushrooms and pumpkins are in season so it made sense to order some. The pasta below has pumpkin and spicy sausage…delicious.

La Sosta is open through the week for dinner and Sunday lunch. It is in Pascoso,via Pescaglia or Fabbriche di Vallico.
