Dinner at Tenuta La Fratta
I visited the delightful restaurant at the Agriturismo Tenuta La Fratta in Fornoli for the first time recently. The setting is lovely. I look forward to going back during the day when we can sit outside. It will be a great warm weather venue. Right now is is very cosy indoors.
We arrived early so I was able to take photos before all the tables filled up.
The menu made me want to order everything on it.
My friend and I chose well. Every dish was delicious. All ingredients are sourced locally and the wine is their own production.
We met the charming chef, Nicola, when he came out to chat to guests.
The owners and hosts and our waiter all offered friendly service. It was an excellent evening.
We have driven past the sign on the road leading out of Fornoli, towards Garfagnana, for years, not knowing such a great restaurant was so close. Look for the sign on the right just after you leave Fornoli and around the first curve you will see if. The road up to Tenuta La Fratta is narrow and not well surfaced, but it is well worth the effort. Look for 2 direction signs with arrows point the way. It is worth the effort. I know we will be returning often.

Magic and music for Valentine’s Day
On Saturday 14th February there will be music and magic at La Corte di Laura in Granaiola. The event will begin at 9.00pm.
Polly Haardon will be performing and Il Grande Marco will present his magic show.

La Corte di Laura
La Corte di Laura is the restaurant in Granaiola that has taken the place of Biribisso. I went with friends a couple of weeks ago and I was impressed with the delightful service and the delicious food.
I wish I could show you more of the great food, but my friends and I all ordered the same things!
The first dish is the complimentary first taste.
Our first choice was a great success, a light pastry surrounding a wonderful chess filling with a drizzle of local honey.
This was followed by pork medallions and perfectly cooked new potatoes.
We were too full for dolce….next time.
La Corte di Laura is a great addition to the restaurant scene in Bagni di Lucca.
A new restaurant in Granaiola
It is excellent to hear of a new restaurant opening in Bagni di Lucca. La Corte di Laura will open in Granaiola on the site of Biribisso which closed a few years ago.
Le Torre
Le Torre is an agriturismo above Fornoli. It looks wonderful in its lofty position and features in many photos.
There is accommodation at Le Torre…and a restaurant. We visited in late summer, just before the weather turned cool. There is a lovely terrace outside and great views.
The star of the show here is the antipasti. Be careful not to eat too much, as we did.
You need to leave room for the next course. The photos are a bit blurry, the light was fading.
I can’t show you dessert. We could not manage another course.
i look forward to a cosy dinner inside during winter.
Pizza at Es Vedra
Es Vedra opened recently in Fornoli. It is on the road out of town, just before the bend as you head towards Barga and set back from the road a little to allow parking in front.
As well as pizza there is an excellent taglieri.
It came with pasta fritta and flat bread.
We all ordered the spicy pizza with salami, pepperoncini and nduja. It was delicious!
The restaurant is bright and new and the young staff cheerful and helpful.
It is a great addition to Fornoli.

Il Ghiottone
IIl Ghiottone is an unassuming bar and restaurant on the SS Brennero near Cocciglia.
They do a great lunch for just €10.
I had a prosciutto and mozzarella and delicious beans in an excellent tomato sauce.
My friend had a pork chop and a fresh salad.
Bread, water and wine are included.
Look out for the sign beside the road.
…and coming back the other way. I love this building.
Il Ghiottone means The Glutton. I think it is wonderful that there are so many places in Bagni di Lucca where delicious meals are offered at a great price.
