We have had mixed weather for the last few days. Today was glorious with blue sky and light wind, but there has been heavy rain, fierce wind, hail and snow on the mountains.
The snow melted quickly in the warm sun, but it was pretty while it lasted.
Just before I left Bagni di Lucca in November I went with friends into the glorious mountains above Montefegatesi. It was a beautiful autumn day.
We came upon a shepherd with his well kept goats. I love to see the old traditions carried on…long may it continue.
When I return tomorrow the landscape will be quite different. I look forward to another visit to the mountains.
Driving along mountain roads in autumn brings lots of rewards. Winter is not far off now, but earlier in autumm the colours were glorious.
The colours are amazing.
When the late afternoon sun hits the hills they light up.
In winter most trees will be bare against the cold.

Il uomo morto, the dead man, is a cluster of mountains that, when viewed from a certain angle, looks like a man lying down.
The day I took the photo was a bit hazy, but you can see why the mountains got their name. I was in Pieve Fosciana in Garfagnana when I took the photo.
These gorgeous birds were spotted by a friend in their vineyard recently…not these 2, the photo is courtesy of Google, but a pair just like them.

I have heard woodpeckers, but I don’t see them. We have swallows and swifts on the river, but they are a bit difficult to capture on film.
