There is a pretty walk beside the river in La Villa. You can enter beside Conad supermarket or below the walking bridge behind the Teatro Accademico.

A lovely way to take a quiet walk beside the river.
I returned from an overnight trip to find the Lima River turned into a raging torrent. Heavy rainfall and melting snow have sent huge amounts of water down the river. The level of the water went from about 1.5metres to 4.7 last night. It has dropped a bit today but it is still rushing past my window carrying logs and other debris with it.
I hope the high water doesn’t cause damage.
On Sunday the local raft groups raced each other from Chifenti, where the Lima River meets the Serchio River, to the gorgeous Ponte della Maddelena.
I missed the race, but Montefegatesi photographer David Bonaventura was on hand to get get some great photos.
It looked like a fun day despite the less than perfect weather. I think the boys in the white raft won.
The beautiful Lima River runs through the middle of Bagni di Lucca. The water is clear and cold and home to trout and water birds. Lately it is also home to water sports, rafting, canoeing, canyoning as well as the usual swimming and fishing. These activities bring lots of visitors to Bagni di Lucca.
Local photographer Paolo Roverani took this gorgeous photo recently.
On Monday this is what the same scene looked like.
Somebody has been dumping filth into the river, usually on a Monday. The police have been notified but there are no results yet. How anyone could do this is beyond me, there must be alternative! This is just lazy and irresponsible.
Sombody must know who is doing this…step forward and rat on them. The river will thank you.

The Lima River is a perfect spot for rafting. The Aguarja Rafting Company is based at the Tennis Club in Bagni di Lucca.
They offer rafting and canyoning rides and calm river trails for the more sedate amongst us.
My friend Farah shared these photos of a recent outing.
It looks like great fun. To find out more, go to their website…www.aguaraja.com
The rivers and streams are full of fast flowing water at this time of year. It is heartening to see that it is clean and clear.
The colour of the water changes, depending on melting snow and the amount of rain. There are some amazing colours in the river on the way into the Garfagnana.
I pass this river every time I go to our mountain house. It is always beautiful.
It is raining today, more water to fill the rivers.
Ponte a Serraglio looks glorious in summer. I love every season, but when everything is green and lush Ponte is wonderful.
There are often fishermen on the river, I hope they catch something.
By the end of the hottest season the water level in the river drops unless there is summer rain.
This year has been very hot and dry, so it will no longer be as green as when I took these photos, but still beautiful.
Summer in Italy is hot, especially this year. The water in the Lima River is cold…the perfect place to cool off on a hot summer day.
We found this inviting place to swim near the bridge to Casoli.
There is a path down to the river. The water looked wonderful. Unfortunately we had no towels or swimsuits so had to content ourselves with an ankle deep paddle.
I would have loved to dive into the deeper water.
The water is clear and running fairly quickly. The photos were taken in mid June, so it may have slowed a bit.
We saw lots of tadpoles…they are probably frogs now.
Happy swimming.
