Just past Fornoli on the road towards Barga is a small garden plot where you can buy produce directly from the grower. It doesn’t come much fresher than that!
I called in recently and bought some zucchini flowers and tropea onions…delicious.

The beautiful public pool is open in La Villa. It is in the grounds of Villa Ada. The entrance is in Via Evangelina Whipple.
There are 3 pools.
The diving pool.
The shallow pool for young children.
The setting is lovely.
There is a cafe if you get hungry.
The pool is open from 9.00am until 7.00pm.

On 1st June there will be a concert to celebrate Republic Day. If it rains it will move from the piazza off Via Umberto I to the Teatro Accademico nearby.
This event in Fornoli is great fun. I hope it is a fine day. In case of rain it will move to the following Sunday.
Jungle is an excellent clothing shop for children from 0-16 in La Villa, at 89 Viale Umberto I.
It is well stocked with wearable items and gifts for boys and girls.

Today is the day of the Gran Tour del Pratofiorito.
The rain didn’t put the riders off.
Here they are coming through Ponte a Serraglio.
Rosi captured them further up towards Prato Fiorito.
There is always something happening in Bagni di Lucca.
Apart from making everything grow and look gorgeous, rain has other benefits.
There is plenty of water in the river for the rafters.
What fun!
If we could just organise the rain to fall between midnight and 4.00am a couple of nights a week it would be excellent.
On Saturday the Alta Via dei Pastori was opened. The walking path takes you from San Cassiano to Monte Prato Fiorito.
The mayor officially opened the path.
Aldo Lanini from Pegaso Trekking was the initiator and the one who brought together a group of people to organise the project.
San Cassiano di Controni was once the most populated of the Bagni di Lucca villages. It is the largest in area with several hamlets.
The information board tells the story.
This is a wonderful initiative. There are dozens of old mule trails between the villages of Bagni di Lucca. It is the perfect way to see this gorgeous area. I’m sure this new path will be put to good use.

We are enjoying some welcome rain today in Bagni di Lucca. It should help the local fire situation.
As much as we need the rain, a fine weekend would be welcome. The annual walk from Fornoli will happen this Sunday, 7th April.
You can begin in Fornoli and walk for 2 kilometres or more. The longest walk is 20 kilometres. Just roll up and register from 7.30am.
It is a lot of fun and there are refreshments provided along the way.
The wonderful garden event, Verdemura, is on again this week in Lucca. It begins on Friday at midday and continues Saturday and Sunday. It is held on the stunning wall of Lucca near the Santa Anna entrance.
I’m sure both events will be popular and well attended.
If you look closely at this photo you will see 2 birds standing on the wall in the river at Ponte a Serraglio.
One is a cormorant (I think. I am happy to be corrected) The black bird was drying his wings in the sun. He wasn’t there long before he flew off, no doubt looking for lunch.
It always surprises me to see seagulls on our river, but I suppose it is not all that far as the crow (or seagull) flies from the sea.
Green buds are beginning to appear on the trees. Spring is underway.
The sun is shining, but there is a fierce wind blowing.
