One of our favourite places to eat in Bagni di Lucca is Del Sonno. The food is great and Jayne and Ilario are delightful….what more could you want?
I know I am boring, but I almost always order the same thing, saltimbocca. It literally means “jump in the mouth”. If you taste it you will know why. The dish consists of thinly sliced veal, topped with prosciutto and sage leaves.
I usually have grilled vegetables as a side dish.
They also do a great pizza and when I can force myself not eat the saltimbocca I have a gorgonzola and prosciutto pizza….or a salame piccante….or quatro stagione…..
The crust is thin and crispy and the toppings, just right.
I have, on occasion, been known to have pannacotta or tiramisu. Then I walk home to Ponte a Serraglio.

Hi Jayne and Ilario. Great to see you again, especially from Sydney! Del Sonno is our favourite restaurant and Jayne and Ilario are lovely people. They put on a lovely outside wedding reception for our son and daughter-in-law during their Summer Music Festival.
Ilario reads the blog, so he will see your comments. I’m sure he will be pleased to hear from you.
You could always dedicate yourself to tracking the wonderful food on offer in your neck of the woods there Debra! This looks like another wonderful place to eat. You have a very fine palate I’m guessing. ;-)…. Jxx
We are always looking for good places to eat in our area. The food here is very good and we are rarely disappointed. I do like food, and will try most things…..except tripe.

It is difficult to go past Jayne’s saltimbocca.
The grilled veggies look tasty! As does all the rest.. making me hungry to lunch…might have to settle for “take out” pizza…just not quite the same, eh?…!

At your suggestion we tried the Saltimbocca which was superb – served with mixed grilled vegetables including zucchini, aubergine, and peperonata. All wonderful. I can vouch for the pizza’s at Del Sonno as well – speck con gorganzola pizza is very good. Delicious dolci too. The gorganzola and walnut salad is a hit. In fact we’ve only ever had good food and good service there. Ilario always takes time to speak with his customers, and his staff are polite and friendly.
In the summer we ate outside while the fashion show was going on over the road at the Forestiere. We enjoyed spaghetti vongole, steak and chips, and pancetta and raddichio risotto. Clean plates all round!
Jayne and Ilario are a delightful couple. I always enjoy going to Del Sonno.
Bagni di Lucca is a wonderful town in Tuscany.
I can recommend a visit to the restaurant Antico del Sonno.
The owners Jayne and Ilario are some amazing people and their cuisine is of high quality – both the good products and the fine cooking and the exellent wines.
Visit the restaurant and you will have a wonderful experience.
I am a regular at Del Sonno. They are on holidays right now and we all look forward to their return.
