It is almost time for the next second hand market in La Villa.
The market will be held in the main street of La Villa this Sunday. There will be antiques, collectables and lots of great things.
The new fruit and vegetable shop opened in Ponte a Serraglio and drew a huge crowd of well wishers…and buyers.
The shop has exceeded expectations. The space is tiny and it is overflowing with great food. There is much more than just fruit and vegetables, which look amazing.
There is also a deli counter filled with delights. It was a bit crowded so I couldn’t photograph much.
There are shelves stocked with handy items for convenient shopping.
There were refreshments, of course, and a huge cake.
A young family is behind this new venture. When things settle a bit I will have a chat with them and find out a bit more…along with the opening hours.
Alberigi has grown! They have opened a huge new area near their small shop on the road from Chifenti to Fornoli.
You will find all kinds of wonderful things for your home and garden.
I dare you to go there and come away empty handed.
It wasn’t great weather for the first day of Verde Mura, the garden show on the wall of Lucca, but it didn’t stop the crowds.
We went in search of peonies and hydrangeas for our mountain house, but it also fun to wander to see all the gorgeous plants on offer.
There are other things to see and buy too, not all garden related.
It wouldn’t be an exhibition without food.
Verdemura is on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd of April as well. Don’t miss it if you are in the area. http://www.verdemura.it
We found peonies, georgeous hydrangeas, aquilegias, daphne, and some acanthus…which will all be planted today.
La Villa has a delightful new addition to the shopping scene. Shelley House is an art gallery and book shop. It packs a lot into a tiny space.
They stock a good range of fiction, poetry, Italian Art, Opera, Italian recipe books, local history…in several languages. There are also books about Shelley, Keats and English poets who visited Bagni di Lucca.
Shelley House is a special place where you can find and buy works of art by painters and sculptors. If you are an artist they can organise and exhibition for you.
Meet Luca Guidi and Rebecca Palagi…drop in to say hello.
Shelley House is at number 78 Via Umberto I. It is open Thursday to Saturday 9.30 am until 6.00pm.
It has been an eventful year in Bagni di Lucca. It is interesting to look back.

There was a tornado early in the year which caused lots of damage. Our lovely park in La Villa was devastated, with wonderful old trees wrecked by the wind.
Many houses suffered with damaged roofs and other property damage. I hope we don’t see a weather event like that again.
Late winter is the time to plant pansies on the bridge at Ponte a Serraglio.
You can see some green appearing around Lucchio in early spring.
Gorgeous yellow forsythia appears to brighten up the cool days.
Then wisteria shows its lovely lilac face.
The beautiful house where the Barrett Brownings stayed in La Villa was lovingly restored.
Circolo dei Forestieri reopened and began serving delicious food…lucky us.
Soon on it was time to replace the pansies with geraniums. This year I had help in the form of Paul and Sheila.
In May there was much excitement, and some new roads, when the Giro d’Italia came through Bagni di Lucca.
Not long after the magnificent Mille Miglia graced our streets.
May was also the perfect time for a lunch at Rifugio Fiori in Pieve di Monte di Villa, followed by a walk down to Ponte a Serraglio along the forest walk.
…and a stroll through Monti di Villa.
There was an art gallery showing.
…and a religious procession.
The annual crossbow competition took place in June.
Followed by Art in the Park at Villa Fiori.
A a swim in the cool waters of the Lima River is the thing to do on a hot summer day.
For those wanting a bit of adventure the exciting Canyon Park opened.
Ponte a Serraglio looks pretty in the summer sun.
Trattoria Borghesi reopened its doors to the delight of the locals and visitors alike.
Giuliana opened her new shop in Fornoli.
Pinocchio visited La Villa with some fun for children.
I discovered the monument to the soldiers shot by Nazis in WWII in the cemetery at Ponte a Serraglio.
Autumn began to appear with mists swirling through the mountains.
Paul Davies shared his beautiful photos of San Cassiano in autumn with us.
…and 3 local photographers, including David Bonaventuri shared the Presepe Vivente in Monti di Villa.
The year has flown by…there is always something wonderful to see and do in Bagni di Lucca. I look forward to much more in 2016.
