Panettone is a sweet bread prepared all over Italy for Christmas. Making the bread is a lengthy process, with the dough taking days to cure. The bread contains candied orange, citron, lemon zest and raisins.
Luckily for us, making panettone is not necessary. Annalisa makes very delicious panettone at Il Monaco in Ponte a Serraglio.
You will have to be quick, there are only so many she can make.
Panettone is a favourite Christmas cake for us. It is a pity that we are not in Italy at the moment, as we are certain that the ones from Annalisa’s Il Monaco must be delicious.
Annalisa does a great job at Il Monaco. We are very lucky.
Love the cake! The panettone in Italy is definitely the best, but very rich in calories. Makes your cholesterol jump into the higher end of the numbers. But what the heck, it’s Christmas time.
I don’t think there is a lot of fat in panettone. If you added lots of butter it might add something to your cholesterol.
I hope to taste this one some day, homemade or from the bakery, not from the industry.
Making panettone is quite involved. I think a freshly made one would have to be better than on from a factory.
Wonderful picture of both Annalisa and her festive panettone. I remember well Annalisa’s wonderful pastries and miss them with her phenomenal coffee!
She certainly makes great coffee. I miss it when I am not at Ponte a Serraglio.
I love panettone but just have had the commercially baked ones. One from a small bakery must be nice.
Annalisa only makes a small number of them as they are quite complicated and take a long time to make properly.
Buon Natale! Hope you have a lovely holiday and safe travels.

Happy New Year to you. I hope we catch up in the spring.
Ah you’re teasing us now. I do wish someone would hurry up and invent a ‘transporter’ of the type they have in Star Trek so that I can be transported to Il Monaco at the flick of a switch. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you, and all of the other bloggers!
I would love a transporter so that I could travel between Australia and Italy more easily.
The Panettone looks delicious, this is something I have yet to try! The photo of Annalisa and Il Monaco is very welcome until I return to Ponte in the Spring, thank you Debra 🙂
I look forward to seeing you in the spring. It is raining and cold here right now, spring seems a long way off.
