Lucky Granaiola sits in warm sunshine most of the time. It is 416 metres above sea level on top of a ridge. The 125 inhabitants get magnificent views of the valley below and the mountains around them.
This is my view of Granaiola from Ponte a Serraglio.
This is their view of Ponte a Serraglio.
The pretty village houses cling to the side of the hill. Come for a walk along the narrow streets.
Granaiola has a birds’ eye view of Colle.
…and across to Lugliano.
…and to Monti di Villa.
These photos were taken last year…time for another visit to Granaiola.

It would be easy to drive past Granaiola as most of the village is below the road going to Pieve.
Debra,
I guess our paths will forever cross via the internet only. I am grateful for at least that as your pictures keep me happy all winter long. I will gaze up at your flowers and balcony when we finally get there. I don’t think it will be as early as May but one can hope.
I’m sure we will be in the village at the same time one day. I will be planting the pansies on the bridge and balcony when I get back later this week.
Your flowers are a very nice gift to the community and I know are very much appreciated by both tourists and locals.
I do it for myself as much as anyone else. I love to see the village looking pretty.
Gorgeous. Thanx Debra
I hope to get back to Granaiola soon. There is a good restaurant up there and in the warmer weather there is an outdoor barbecue.
Thank you dear Debra, they are so beautiful, so beautiful… Love, nia
Thank you so very much for these wonderful photos. I hope you’ll return to Pieve dei Monti di Villa when you go back to Granaiola. I just love those villages; each has their own special characteristics. Will be back in the not too distant future.
I will be around until late May. Perhaps we will meet.
What a nice hike to the top! Love the views, great door, but where are the cats? Once again fantastic photos, thank you Debra.
The cats must have been sleeping indoors that day.
Hi Debra,
I just love these pics. Quick question, can you tell me a little something about this casino at Ponte a Serragalio? We are visiting Lucca in October and my parents who enjoy gambling will be coming with us. They would love a casino 🙂 Thanks in advance!
The casino is reputed to be the first in Europe. It no longer functions as a casino. I think there is one in Viareggio.
Thanks so much, Debra. I’ll look into that!
Debra
But I like cats…………….more photos………..please, pretty please.
I promise to look out for more cats on my visits to the villages.
I’m sitting here in Northern California. Your photos make me miss Bagni di Lucca so much… Thank you, Bruce Brodie
I am in New York right now and I am hoping the storm won’t interfere with my flight back to Italy tomorrow night.
