La Villa is the commercial centre of Bagni di Lucca. It is the village most people think of as Bagni di Lucca, which is actually a collection of small villages scattered along the Lima River and in the mountains either side of it.
It is possible to see most of La Villa from a hill above.
The beautiful pool with a view is visible.
…and the ancient church.
…and the beautiful park.
The table is set for a quiet evening above La Villa.
Soon the sun goes down and the lights come on.
Wonderful to see Bagni at night. We are going to be in Serraglio on September 23 and 24.We have loved following your posts. If there is any chance of meeting up that would be so good. Pauline and Colin, Sussex, UK.
I will be in Ponte a Serraglio when you are there. I am at Il Monaco for coffee most mornings. My apartment is the one with the little balcony beside the bridge. Ring my bell.
Oh that’s wonderful. Thank you. We will definitely see you then. Many many thanks. Pauline and Colin.
As always. Lovely.
It was a beautiful evening.
“La Villa” in Italian means the chief town or administrative centre of a region, also referred to as “Capoluogo” or head town and this has been the case since the 10th Century. Actually, before Elisa Bonaparte decided to change its name to Bagni di Lucca, the Thermal Baths were called Bagno alla Villa. This gives a good explanation about the history of the area http://www.bagnidiluccaterme.info/en/argomento/Paesi-di-Bagni-di-Lucca/La-Villa-Capoluogo.html
La Villa houses the Town Hall, the Library, the Theatre, the main Post Office and many historical buildings, besides banks, shops, restaurants and cafes.
And those photos by night are beautiful, Deb.
La Villa has lots of great places to eat and shop.
It’s so very beautiful and quite magical by night.
La Villa looks very pretty from above.
Great photos of La Villa day and night. I wonder how busy the pool is now, it was very busy in August. I would imagine there are still plenty of visitors around?
I think the pool is now closed. It is still quite warm, but I think it closes at the end of August regardless.
We always go to the pool in September, it usually stays open until the children go back to school which this year is Sept 14th, although that does depend on the weather or the number of people who want to go.
There were three umberellas in use today but it was quite breezy.
I heard there was a closing party for the pool a couple of weeks ago. Perhaps it closed early this year.
The party was for the end of summer not for the closing of the pool, the poster for it did say closing party but when we asked they said that was not what they meant! I think something got lost in the translation!!
OK, I was told it was for the closing of the pool. It wasn’t actually the end of summer, that was today.

Oh sorry to hear the pool will be closed when we’re there. Did I read somewhere that they covered over the pool for winter? Or maybe I dreamed that!
There are 2 pools, one open and one covered. I believe the covered one is open all year.
