On Saturday evening La Rondine in Ponte a Serraglio introduced a new exhibition in the gallery. Photographer Richard Smukler is now showing his work.
Our illustrious mayor opened the proceedings and introduced the artist.
Lots of people attended to admire the work.
There was music.
Francis recited a poem.
Midway during the evening we enjoyed a procession along the street.
It was a great evening, the first of many for the summer season. There is always something happening at Ponte a Serraglio.
Gorgeous post, Debbie!! And lovely photographs! Thank you!
I think it is a lovely photo of you and Mike. It was a great event, thank you.
Great to see the art festival is happenning again. Hope it is another successful season in Ponte a Serraglio.
I hope do too, unfortunately I won’t be here to see it.
You have such a grand seat for the events … but oh no … back to the Land Down Under. 😉
There really is always something happening in Bagni di Lucca, I will miss it when I go. I will return in September.
Two great events almost rolled into one. The religious one is called corpus cristi
Sorry I meant corpus Domini. At camaiore and other places they decorate the streets with Flower petals into nice designs
I was in Spello last year for the Infiorata, it was wonderful.
It was the Corpus Domine procession for Ponte a Serraglio. It started with a solemn Mass at the SS Crocifisso church, ( I was at Mass, but was not feeling too well with all the incense… So I decided not to join the procession). The young boy walking under the baldachin or “baldacchino” in Italian had his First Communion on that day. It is customary for children in the area to have their First Communion on this particular day. On Sunday, the Solemn Mass and First Communion took place at San Pietro in Corsena and the procession came that evening from the church in Corsena to the Sacred Heart Church in La Villa, opposite the Countess Casalini Park. There were quite a few children participating.
At Ponte a Serraglio there were three little girls, dressed in white tunics and wearing flower crowns throwing rose petals. The Sisters did an excellent job organizing them as they were very young… And really adorable!
Don Emmanuel is wearing some special clothes and ornaments reserved for this special festivity. They are quite old and precious. All hand embroidered.
Thanks for the extra information, it is good to know more about these things. The priest’s robes were very impressive.
This looks like my kind of party too Deb. Sets the scene for a lovely summer to come!
