The pansies on the bridge in front of my apartment at Ponte a Serraglio this year have put on a fabulous show. We have had little rain or wind since they were planted and they have thrived.
They were still looking great, but they won’t last through the summer and it is now time to plant the geraniums.
This year I have had help to plant the flowers on the bridge. It has been great. There are lots of pots and dragging the bags of soil, carrying the plants and digging up the old ones takes time, so having 2 helpers made a big difference. Thank you Paul and Sheila.
Paul also cleaned out and replanted the large pots beside Villa Fiori. (Somebody pinched one of the lavender plants almost immediately, which is a bit disappointing).
We are now thinking of buying some new hanging pots for the lampposts along the river and planting more geraniums. There is a reasonable amount of expense involved in this, so if anyone would like to contribute it would be appreciated. Please email me at debrakolkka@gmail.com if you are interested in helping out.
What a lovely display this year…well done to Paul and Sheila for their help. Looking forward to seeing the geraniums in a later post Deb.
They look a bit spindly right now, but they will grow. It was difficult to take the pansies out when they were still looking so good, but they wouldn’t have lasted much longer.
I hope to be back soon al ‘Ponte di Ponte’ to admire the pansies and the ‘greenkeepers’, sorry, I meant the pansie-keepers, (and to contribute)
I look forward to seeing you soon.
Those pansies are simply gorgeous. The photos bring back some wonderful memories. If I was there I would enjoy helping you to plant the geraniums.
It was a pity to pull them out, but the geraniums will put on a good show soon.
We saw the new geraniums yesterday when we went past the bridge and they are looking great, although the pansies were beautiful. We are also trying to tidy up and put flowers in our area, as the Giro and the Mille Miglia are coming our way. Great to see that you are getting some helpers, this is the way to go. More community effort is needed.
Sorry to hear about the lavenders! Stealing whole plants and containers is not unusual…. Unfortunately!
It is very disappointing when the flowers are stolen. Each plant costs very little, but the bother of having to replace them is the real issue.
Such wonderful color!!! Really nice! What a sweet project! Bravissimi!
I would love to see huge pots everywhere spilling geraniums.
You have such a wonderful community in Bagni di Lucca. Your beautiful bridge is such an icon of the village. You must be very proud.
I did nit relies you planted the beautiful flowers so well ,well done I would offer to help but am disabled
It was great fun helping with the flowers. Since we all enjoy them, it seems fair to be helping with the project. And it was quite exciting, what with roadwork, a stalled vehicle on the bridge, and Marco directing traffic. Who’d have thought there’d be so much going on at 9:30 on a Thursday morning in our little village?
It was quite a busy morning with a good result. Thank you for your help.
It was a great a pleasure contributing to the community of Ponte. Entertainment plus with the traffic and roadworks while we worked. Now all we need is some contributions from people towards the costs of doing the hanging baskets along the road. That would complete the show.
A couple of people have offered to assist with the cost of the next stage, which is nice.
Oh that 24/7 view of the valley for those flower.
I am very Happy to see so many people interest at beautify our old but historic little Village of Bagni di Lucca e special Ponte a Serraglio where I spend my early years of my life.I thanks all the good people involved on this beautiful project.
