On Sunday I wanted to be in 2 places at once. There was a mini Carnevale at Fornoli at the same time as the one in Viareggio. I went early to the one in Fornoli hoping to get some photos, but there was nothing happening so I unfortunately I have nothing to show you.
It was the last day time parade in Viareggio and it was a gorgeous day, so I headed off with a group of friends to join in the fun. I took hundreds of photos and have done a couple of posts. In this one I will concentrate on the people who dress up to take part, either as part of the exhibition or the enthusiastic audience. I love the way people get involved and make the event the exciting happening that it is.
Whole families go along to have fun. It is a great day…the result of huge amounts of work by many people. I’m sure next year is already being worked on. I hope I will be there to see it.
Go to Bagni di Lucca and Beyond to see more on the floats in the parade.
Great photos, Deb! I love the dog dressed up as a lion….
He was as big as a lion too.
did you find it interesting how many men dressed up? almost as if it was holloween….great event……….but some very scary themes….
Everyone likes to dress up for the event, whole families get involved, it’s great.
Fabulous faces with costumes. I loved that last one, and also the nun with the lopsided lipstick.
The pink man was amazing. People go to a lot of trouble to be involved.
We must have passed each other at some time as we were alao atViareggio, i love your photos of the faces, i concentrated on the floats with it being my first visit. I also love the way everyone hets involved Carol Sensone cx
I was standing in front of the tiered stand for most of my time there. There are lots of photos of the floats on my other blog. There is s link at the bottom of the post. It was my 5th Carnevale.
Nice, fancy fasces!
People go to s lot of effort to be involved in the fun.
I always think it takes great costume commitment to wear those spooky contact lenses – I can’t even bring myself to put regular ones in my eyes! 🙂
I’m with you on that one. I don’t think I could do it.
Love the very creative costumes and that fact so many spectators get into the spirit of the event by dressing up.
It is a fun day out for lots of people.
The nun and superman were my favourites! Hilarious! Made me chuckle first up this morning Deb! You’ve captured some great faces!

I missed some fabulous ones. It is very crowded and you need to be quick.
This seems more like the spirit of Carnevale than the highly touristic affair in Venice.
I must admit that I don’t really like those stiff masks in Venice. This one is much more chaotic and fun.
The people in costume are fantastic. I especially love the dogs in costume. Everything is so colourful and vibrant. oh how I love a parade
…and this is s spectacular parade.
Stunning photos. They really make me nostalgic for the energy and character of everyday Italians. They really know how to have a good time and look amazing doing it!
What a riot of colour – fabulous.
There are some great costumes wandering around. Can you imagine Jim or Peter doing this?
