My two favorite Carnevale events – Viareggio and Fornoli. I can’t wait until I see what the kids do with the Olympics theme. My first was 2 or 3 years ago – Mary Poppins theme. Nothing cuter than all the little girls in ‘Poppins’ dresses, fancy hats, and umbrellas. And the boys with their faces covered in ash – as chimney sweeps.

I arrive in Bagni di Lucca the day before. I am tossing up whether I go to Fornoli or Viareggio. I had my wallet stolen last year in Viaregio, so Fornoli is looking good.
