The Comune of Bagni di Lucca is asking residents and part time residents to fill out a questionnaire designed to gather ideas and opinions of those who live in the area, with a view to making improvements for the future of the town.
Once the results have been gathered the data will be evaluated and analysed. Between September and October there will be meetings and debates open to the citizens. A final presentation of the results will occur and developments discussed.
If you have not done so already please consider taking the time to contribute to the development of Bagni di Lucca. The answers must be done by 20th June, so just over a week left to take part.

Bella Bagni di Lucca 
I don’t live in Bagni di Lucca (yet), but in August – as I have done for the past two years – I will be visiting the town and staying at the Bridge Hotel for a while. My great-grandfather was one of those plaster figurine makers from Bagni di Lucca who emigrated, later went on to produce ice cream, and settled in Germany. I have a few ideas, but I have no idea whether they are feasible and, of course, I am not allowed to vote: 1. International town twinning schemes to draw the attention of visitors and, where appropriate, investors to BdL. 2. Revitalising the casino, possibly with the help of foreign investors. The ‘first casino in Europe’ and the ‘inventors of roulette’ could generate global interest through these slogans alone. 3. The average age of residents in BdL and the surrounding area is rising rapidly. Perhaps it would be worth considering creating a kind of retirement home and bringing larger, supra-regional care facilities to BdL. 4. In Sicily, many towns with fewer than 30,000 inhabitants and weak infrastructure offer foreign pensioners the option of very low tax rates. In Sicily, pensioners can pay 7% tax on additional income if they live there and spend over 50% of the year there. Whether something similar could be implemented in Bagni di Lucca and whether tax incentives could be offered to start-ups, industry and commerce for new businesses setting up there. Non vivo (ancora) a Bagni di Lucca, ma ad agosto – come negli ultimi due anni – visiterò il comune e soggiornerò per qualche tempo al Bridge Hotel. Il mio bisnonno era uno di quei produttori di statuine in gesso di Bagni di Lucca emigrati all’estero, che in seguito si dedicò anche alla produzione di gelati e si stabilì in Germania. Avrei alcune idee, ma non ho idea se siano realizzabili e, ovviamente, non posso votare: 1. Gemellaggi internazionali tra città, per attirare l’attenzione dei visitatori e, se del caso, anche degli investitori su BdL. 2. Rilancio del casinò, eventualmente con l’aiuto di investitori stranieri. Il “primo casinò d’Europa” e gli “inventori della roulette” potrebbero ottenere una risonanza mondiale solo grazie a questi slogan. 3. L’età media degli abitanti di BdL e dintorni sta aumentando rapidamente. Forse varrebbe la pena di prendere in considerazione la creazione di una sorta di residenza per anziani e di portare a BdL strutture di assistenza interregionali di grandi dimensioni. 4. In Sicilia, molte città con meno di 30.000 abitanti e strutturalmente deboli offrono ai pensionati stranieri la possibilità di usufruire di aliquote fiscali molto basse. In Sicilia, un pensionato può pagare il 7% di tasse sui redditi aggiuntivi se risiede lì e vi trascorre più del 50% dell’anno. Se una cosa del genere sia realizzabile a Bagni di Lucca e se si possano offrire incentivi fiscali per start-up, industria e commercio in caso di nuovi insediamenti.
